We--Olivia Gilchrist, Karah Post, and Bella Clark-- are all co-candidates who are fundraising as much money as we can for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). A little bit about us! We all attend Lakewood High School and are Juniors who are in the IB program. 

Olivia lives in Evergreen and is involved in cross country and track.

We got involved in the Students of the Year campaign through a high school friend of ours. We were all very inspired by the work this friend was able to do and how much she was able to raise as a high schooler! This really opened our eyes to the potential that we could have to make such a big impact on finding a cure for cancer. Programs like the Students of the Year campaign are so unique which is why it is incredible that high schoolers like us can be trusted and encouraged to take on such a big campaign. 

Unfortunately, everyone can think of someone they personally know who has been/is affected by cancer in general, whether that is blood cancer or not. But what is so unique and extraordinary about LLS is that this organization funded more than 60% of the blood cancer therapies being used to treat other cancers; so the work that LLS does does not only benefit blood cancers but actually goes on to help treat other diseases and cancers as well. But there is still so much work to be done! Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer and in the last 40 years, only 4 blood cancer drugs were specifically created for children while Leukemia remains the most diagnosed form of childhood cancers. 

This is where your support comes into play. We cannot raise this money for increased research, personalized patient support, or improved treatments without the help of generous donors like you or the help of our extraordinary team members (you can visit their individual pages separately through each team member).
