Sarah Rubin (Candidate)
Our team consists of nine Loudoun County students from primarily Woodgrove Highschool and Loudoun Valley Highschool (with one team member attending Briar Woods) overcoming their school rivalry for an amazing cause- battling blood cancer.
Team Why:
Like many of you, each member of this team has been personally impacted by the terrifying news of a family member or dear friend being diagnosed with cancer. Although cancer comes in many forms, we believe that the cure is in the blood. If it hadn't been for past Students of the Year and LLS volunteers, our loved ones may not have survived to see us fight on their behalf today, and for those who unfortunatley didn't win their battle, their fate may have been different if there had been more people fighting a long side them. We fight for those who no longer can, and we fight because if others hadn't, our loved ones wouldn't be with us today.
If you can support our fundraising efforts in any way, we appreciate you greatly. One major thing that this fundraiser has taught so many students is the true meaning of every dollar and cent earned. No matter how small, or how seemingly insignificant, everything and everyone has the power to make a remarkable change.

My donation is in honor of my mother in law, Mary Ratihn. Mary is a cancer survivor. And to John Washington, who lost his battle I would also like to dedicate to all who have lost their battle, who are still fighting and who have beat this terrible disease.
Kwasi and Angela Fraser
We are so glad that you participating in this. Keep strong and keep fighting for a cure.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have family members survive their cancer diagnoses, but not everyone has gotten that blessing. My heart goes out to all the families and loved ones that have lost someone to cancer. To be able to contribute to something so much bigger than me and could change lives, is not only humbling, but inspiring. Thank you LLS for helping make a difference in the world.

While battling leukemia during his senior year of high school, Nick supported my grandmother while she was in the hematology/oncology ward, gifted me with fuzzy socks so we would match, and taught me so much about not taking any moment for granted.

Caoilinn is the mightiest warrior I’ve ever had as a student. She’s now in her third bout with leukemia, still positive and HILARIOUS! Hopefully some day no one will go through what she has.
