Hunter Robinson "LLS Students of the Year" Candidate

Jan 16, 2021

THANKS FOR VISITING MY FUNDRAISING PAGE!

Almost every high school student wants a chance to be a part of something bigger than their self. (I’m not just talking about the football or Friday night lights”) In 2021 I will have that chance! I am excited to announce that we have been selected as candidates for the “Students of the Year” (SOY) campaign. What makes this year different is that this will be the first every Loudoun County SOY campaign for the National Capital Area chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).  I have chosen to run as a team which is made up of three captains: Myself of Loudoun Valley High School, Sarah Rubin and Kolbee Wizneskey, both students at Woodgrove High School. In addition to the team captains, we have assemble a great team, most of whom have a personal connection with cancer.

"SOY" is a 7 week fundraising effort that runs from January 9th to February 26th where our team, “LoCo on Cancer 2021”, will raise funds to be donated to LLS. We have set our sights high – our goal is $75,000!  The title of Student(s) of the Year will be awarded to the student group who raises the most funds during this time, and even more importantly if we can raise at least $50,000.00, LLS will fund a research grant in the name of a person we wish to dedicated it to.

“MY WHY” (just one of them anyways) - As you may already know, 2015 was a year that my family will never forget. What started as my mom saying, “Hey guys, we are going to find a cause to support as a family and start giving back” (at 11yrs old you can imagine how fun that sounded or NOT), ended with a statement no kid wants to hear, “I have cancer”. Three words that I will never forget hearing my mom say. No longer was “giving back” or "supporting a cause” just a good thing to do, It was now about survival. Not just for my mom but for you, or maybe even your family and friends. So when I am asked my personal “WHY”, it’s because I don’t want any other kids or parents to have to hear those three word. In the big scheme of curing cancer, $75k may not foot the bill but without all of us doing our part, we will never see that cancer free world we all want to see. As far as the fun parts, it has had its moments but the best feeling is at the end of each campaign that I have participated on (this is my 4th campaign that I have worked on, my first as a captain. The rewarding feeling we all get knowing what a difference we made in such a short amount of time.

My family and I have been asked a lot “Why LLS?” It’s simple, LLS is the leader in blood cancer research. Treatments originally approved for blood cancer research are currently being used to treat many other types of cancer and auto-immune diseases including:  brain, breast, prostate, testicular, kidney, liver, and ovarian cancers, among others.  Since 2016 when my family and I began fundraising for LLS the FDA has approved a record breaking number of new treatments as a direct result of LLS research studies. (My people can get you stats and facts of any particular caner and what they have done for it if you would like)  I believe that the cure for most types of cancer is in the blood and that is why myself snd my fmily choose to be active participants with LLS.

As high school students, it’s hard to understand how cancer can STILL be affecting one out of every three people today, and that all of us will most likely be affected by cancer at some point in our lifetimes. This is our chance, our time, our opportunity to truly make a difference, together we can be the change.

If you have read to this point then I must be doing right!  Your probable getting ready to hit that donate button but before you do let me say "THANK YOU!", I cannot do this alone and your support is appreciated more then you could ever imagine.

Our team WILL to make a difference…Together, we can do it!

Sincerely,                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Hunter Rbinson

In honor of a true fighter and beautiful woman. As Aunt to my best friend Connie I learned so much about her and her amazing journey on this earth, and the hope she has gifted to all who are going through a battle with this beast.

In honor of a woman who taught me so much in the short time I knew her. Her stories of her travels and experiences, and ultimately her courageous battle, made me realize even more how precious life is. I think of her often and every time, I smile. I am blessed to now call her daughter Laura my good friend. We miss you Jean.

One of the greatest things about working in the Real Estate Industry is having the opportunity to give back to our Community and Worthy Causes that are near and dear to our hearts! “To whom much is given, much is required” is a philosophy we hold in high regard, and we are honored to give back to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The work they do for families touches our hearts, and it’s a cause we are proud to sponsor! Here to serve, Debbie & Sarah Reynolds and The Reynolds Team
