My name is Trevor Lee. I am a Sophomore at South High School in Torrance CA. My hobbies are playing basketball, volleyball, and video games, just to name a few. I am also the lead for our team, Buckets Against Cancer. My team and I took on the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Students of the Year Challenge (SOY). The SOY program is a philanthropic leadership development program for high school students in the greater Los Angeles area. Candidates, whom I am one of, are challenged to build a multigenerational team that will help them fundraise on behalf of LLS to find a cure for blood cancers. Together as a team, our goal is to raise $50,000, and as an individual, my goal is to raise $8,000! I know that sounds like a lot of money, but as a team, I know we can accomplish that goal! The campaign ends on Saturday, March 6th so please donate before it ends! Below I listed all of my team members. I linked their fundraising pages if you would like to view those as well. I wanted to participate in LLS's Student of the Year Program because a few years ago, my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. He then proceeded to go through multiple rounds of treatment, but unfortunately, the treatment wasn't able to cure him of his cancer and he passed soon after. Although his diagnosis wasn't a type of blood cancer, I still wanted to become involved with LLS so that no family would have to go through the experience of losing a loved one. 

As a global leader in the fight to end cancer, LLS is committed to doing more for blood cancer patients and families than any organization in the world. LLS’s signature fundraising campaigns drive critical support for its mission, including a nearly $1.3 billion investment in cutting edge cancer research worldwide since it was founded in 1949. Since the 1960s, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled.

Every facet of LLS’s mission – research, education and support, and policy and advocacy – work in harmony to put blood cancer patients and their families first. LLS has helped millions impacted by cancer throughout its more than 70-year history, even funding breakthrough blood cancer research to advance lifesaving treatments and cures that is now helping patients with other cancers and diseases. Also, since 2017, LLS has helped advance 55 out of the 65 FDA approved blood cancer treatments that are now being used to save lives. And not only is LLS having a huge impact on the advancements in cures for blood cancers, but also other types of cancer as well. In fact, since 2000, over half of all new cancer treatments originally started off as blood cancer treatments. That is why at LLS we say that beating cancer is in our blood.
