Help support Team Fireflies Journey for Students of the Year!

 Dear Family & Friends, 

 I have been given the opportunity to participate in a leadership development program to help more than 1.2 million    Americans who are living with a blood cancer.  Each year, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Gulf Coast  Region launches its Students of the Year campaign.  I was asked to join Team Fireflies Journey, led by my friend and 2022 Students of the Year candidate, Grace Coker.  We recently kicked off our journey which runs from January 13^th to March 5^th to help LLS raise money and spread awareness and light on leukemia and lymphoma.  

I decided to take on this challenge in honor of my uncle who was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia in January of 2016.  LLS has been a tremendous educational resource for him.  Their educational materials and webinar presentations by doctors providing information on medical research and trials for new treatments, as well as how to manage medication side effects, have all helped him in defining and learning to live with his diagnosis.  During this campaign, by raising awareness and funds, I hope to help my uncle and the many others affected by blood cancers.

Currently, LLS is funding 11 researchers from MD Anderson and Baylor College of Medicine, budgeted to cost over $11 million. And the good news is that tremendous progress is being made. Even $10 helps an LLS-funded researcher grow cells in a lab for a week to understand how well a new blood cancer therapy might work. 

Our team goal is to raise $50,000, which will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life of their patients and their families.  We are determined to achieve this goal and your contribution - large or small - would be so much appreciated! I have signed up to save lives with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and am working to raise as much as possible over the next 7 weeks. Every dollar raised counts as one vote for my campaign. The candidate(s) whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of Student or Students of the Year. Will you help me earn that title?
 
As you know, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.
 
Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.
 
We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!
