Dear Family & Friends,  

I have been selected to participate in a leadership development program to help more than 1.2 million Americans who are living with a blood cancer.  My campaign team, Team Crushin’ It, and I are competing in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Students of the Year campaign! We recently kicked off our 7 week journey to help LLS raise money and achieve its mission:  to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Believe it or not, every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with a type of blood cancer. Now more than ever, we need to take initiative and shine light on this scary and deadly disease. Team Crushin’ It is a legacy team, and I am so excited to be a part of it this year. Our team goal is $90,000, representing the statistic that someone dies every 9 minutes from blood cancer. I can’t wait to raise awareness and funds towards this common type of cancer, and hopefully make a little impact along the way!

RESEARCH SPOTLIGHT: Currently, LLS is funding 13 researchers from MD Anderson and Baylor College of Medicine, budgeted to cost over $12.4 million.  And the good news is that tremendous progress is being made. Every dollar counts!  Even $10 helps an LLS-funded researcher grow cells in a lab for a week to understand how well a new blood cancer therapy might work.

Our team goal is to raise $90,000 between now and March 5, 2021. Please make your check payable to: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and print “SOY Lauren Bowen” in the “Memo” section. The deadline for receiving contributions in the mail is March 3th.
