Team Gold is honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative where select high school students paticipate in a national fundraising competition in awareness of the research, programs, and advocacy being conducted through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). The amount raised by these efforts will not only support blood cancer patients, but patients of all cancers and serious diseases. The work performed by LLS is truly life changing to all.

A little background about LLS:

  • LLS is the largest nonprofit dedicated to fighting blood cancers

  • 34 of the 39 FDA approved cancer-fighting drugs in the past 2 years were funded by LLS

  • More than 40% of the new FDA-approved cancer treatment drugs first began as blood cancer drugs and are now being applied to stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases

The main reasons why we have become so involved in this campaign were through our personal experiences linked to cancer loss. Today, it has become incredibly rare to meet a person who has not known someone directly affected by any type of cancer; in fact, each member of our team has relations to cancer loss/survival. For instance, Katelyn lost an aunt in 2015 to a rare nerve cancer called Neurofibrosarcoma, and Lauren's grandmother died from cancer before she was born. Olivia’s 12-year-old cousin, Owen Day, passed from Leukemia in 2017. Additionally, Mrs. Lamm’s sister was diagnosed with Leukemia two years ago. These experiences have touched us very deeply. Today, in honor of all who have been affected by cancer, our team joins LLS in their fight to not only end cancer, but also to save children, adults, families, future generations from the hardships of cancer that we once faced.

If you are aware of a company or if your company would like to contribute in a greater form, we would be happy to create a partnership or sponsorship. Program-book ads begin at $500 for half-page, and $1000 for full-page, in which the program will be released at the Grand Finale on March 9th at George Steinbrenner Field. Sponsorships with LLS begin at $3500 and above. Lastly, we value auction items and matching gifts as forms of donations as well. Any donation (including auction items) starting at $500 will be featured on the LLS Golden Group’s fundraising page, and donations over $1000 will be recognized on the top of our page as our donors with “Hearts of Gold.” Donations can be collected beginning on Thursday, January 17th, 2019, through Saturday, March 9th, 2018.

There is no specific net amount of money established to end cancer  — any dollar from any person can finish the fight. Your donation, your single dollar, can be what finds the cure once and for all. Any donation of any amount is appreciated, whether it be $50, which funds educational books for healthcare providers, or $500, which covers costs of treatment-related travel for a patient. All donations are tax deductible. Go Gold with Lauren and Katelyn to fight this battle and find a cure so that no other person has to endure the burdens of cancer. Thank you for your support and generosity.

Bless your hearts for taking on this project. My husband died of leukemia in 2018. This odd amount is the entirety of the remaining balance in his Health Savings Account that I vowed I would donate to Leukemia research. I wish your team well.
