Team's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 12, 2023

Hello Everyone!

Sloane and I are beyond excited to share that we are running as a co-candidate team for the Student Visionaries of the Year campaign for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). This is an organization that spreads awareness for Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkins Disease and Myeloma and we are campaigning to raise as much money and awareness as possible. This is a campaign that happens for 7 weeks starting January 12- March 4. We are supporting LLS as they fund research for the treatments of cancer.

Each of you have experienced cancer in your lives in one way or another, some have had a close relationship or have heard stories that touched them deeply but regardless, cancer has affected each of us. Both my grandmothers suffered from different variations of cancer and I have lost one of them to cancer. My other grandmother was able to beat the disease but even with the different outcomes I have learned how cancer affects each one of us. Some cancers are curable, or at least have treatment, while there are many types that go unnoticed or unfunded. Our goal is to inform each of you on how cancer can affect everyone’s lifestyle and it is important to help raise awareness for the treatment and research of these cancers.

As of 2021, there were 90,390 cases of Lymphoma, and 61,090 cases of Leukemia which together adds up to 9.1% of cancer. At LLS, we plan to help decrease the number of cases found and we want to help find the cure. These two diseases affect at least one person every three minutes and as a result, a large amount of the Unites States population is affected directly from either Lymphoma or Leukemia. We are dedicated to making a difference and helping to raise awareness and money to treat cancer.

Even though our experiences with cancer were not directly related to LLS, we are aware that their funding is what makes any type of treatment possible. We are beyond grateful for how much science has improved and how we are able to help people deal with cancer in their lives, but there is so much more to be done and we know that by supporting this cause we are helping improve research. We are motivated by our personal experiences as well as the stories we hear from other people. We and our teammates are committed to helping fund research and treatment.

We ask you to support our team as we try and make a change in our generation as well as future generations. To help fund the research, please take a look at our website: https://events.lls.org/rm/svoydenver23/tsloanepax

You may also reach out to us through our joint email: sloanepaxton@gmail.com

We also ask you to share this with ones you know to see if they can help and donate or at least inform others.

Thank you for your time and support and we appreciate all donations!

Gratefully,

Paxton Bradley and Sloane Murphy
