In Memory of
Rev. Leonard Lorenza Weaver Sr.
"Rev"

Rev. Leonard Lorenza Weaver Sr. was born on July 31st, 1951, in Tallahassee, FL, to Mrs. Candis Harris and the late Loren Weaver. He was raised in Miami, FL by his mother and father, the late Albert Harris. He is the eldest of five siblings. After the death of his father Albert, he took on the role of "man of the house". He was a wonderful big brother and son who was very helpful, loving, and responsible. In 1970 he graduated from Miami Jackson Sr. High School where he was a member of the wrestling team. After high school, he studied Marine Operations and began his career as an electrician for Amtrak Railroad, where he worked for 20 years until retiring.

In 1968, he was baptized by Rev. Castor at Sellers Memorial UMC. After a long absence from the church, he returned to Sellers in January 1995 where he was appointed as a Lay Leader. On October 13, 1996, he was ordained by the late Rev. Harry Hoston, as pastor of Power House of God Ministry Faith Temple Inc., a non-denominational church. Rev. Weaver was a living testimony who frequently shared how God changed his life. He would often mention how he was once known as "Red," but when God stepped in, he became "Rev". Rev. Weaver knew the power of God and because of how the love of Christ changed him throughout his life experiences; he became a member of the Little River AA club. He would attend meetings and sponsor others that were going through the familiar challenges he had faced and had overcome with God’s help.

When the late Rev. James I. Brazzell became the pastor of Sellers, “Rev” assisted him for four years. He was certified as a Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church by former Superintendent Rev. Keith Ewing; he was appointed Minister of Evangelism at Sellers Memorial/Mt. Pleasant UMC co-op by Rev. Dr. Bill Bailey. In 2006, “Rev” began serving at Kelly's Chapel UMC, where under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Wayne Finn and later, Rev. Purnell Moody he served diligently until his health began to fail. “Rev” worked tirelessly in the church, but understood that he was a servant of God. He faithfully shared the word of God in church, bible study, during personal conversations, via social media, phone, text and email. No matter who he came in contact with, he found a way to share the Love of Christ.

“Rev” met and married the love of his life, Barbara; who is beautiful inside and out. They were inseparable for over 45 years and were avid travelers. Along with their family, they visited numerous places and attractions across the United States such as the Grand Canyon, San Francisco, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Seattle and snowmobiling in Colorado. Most recently, “Rev” and Barbara along with the grandchildren traveled to Georgia to spend time at their home, "The Happy Place," where they shared precious moments with his mother "Mom."

They put smiles on the faces of everyone they came in contact with. He had four wonderful children that he loved dearly. He was a very proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye many of which he had personally nicknamed. He also had five precious great-grand’s that he loved very much. “Rev” loved and cherished spending time with his entire family.

He would often say: "I have been truly blessed with a wonderful mother, loving wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who have given me their support in my work for the Lord."
