Katherine Shiflet, 77, of Meridian, Idaho passed away peacefully in her home on September 17, 2018.
Kathy was born on October 8, 1940 to Hyrum Ervin Davis and Janet Smith Shumway in Prescott, Arizona. She spent her formative years living in Prescott, Arizona. When Kathy graduated from high school in Prescott, she attended the University of Arizona in Tucson. It was there that she met her sweetheart Larry at a rodeo dance and they were married on April 20, 1962 in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. Together, they started a life in Safford, Arizona where their two children, Clint and Sherri were born. In 1975 the family moved to Mesa, Arizona where they lived happily until 1978. At that time, they moved to Boise, Idaho, where Larry was transferred with the Bureau of Land Management. Kathy started her career in the billing department of Boise Water at this moment in time, eventually working her way up into the position of Commercial Manager. With her children getting older and more independent, Kathy returned to school to finish her education. While working full time and climbing the corporate ladder, she was able to earn her Bachelors of Science at the University of Alabama and her Masters of Business Association at Boise State University.
Kathy was highly accomplished and played an active role in her community. She was a part of many organizations, including: being a founding board member of the Discovery Center, a member of the board of the Botanical Gardens, a member of the Water Utilities Council, involvement with the Assistance League of Boise, a member of the board of the Boise Public Schools Education Foundation, a part of the advisory committee for the Ada County Highway District, a member of the Weavers Guild, and a board member of Zonta International. She was also one of the founders of Digline, Inc.
Kathy was an individual who could do anything, and could accomplish any task well. She was skilled in sewing, knitting, weaving, crocheting, baking, and gardening. She had a distinct talent for making people feel special and loved. Considering all of her accomplishments, her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her joy increased exponentially with the recent addition of her seven great-grandchildren.
Kathy is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Larry; son, Clinton (Jennifer); daughter, Sherri (Timothy) Bacharach of Idaho Falls; her sister, Lyn Whipple of Taylor, Arizona; her brother, Burt, of Reno, Nevada; her dearly loved grandchildren Mallory, Kyle, Kaitlin, Brooke, and Emma; and her precious great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Wilford, Jacqueline, Andrew, and Susan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Alluri and the wonderful staff at MSTI. They would also like to thank the loving staff of Heart n’ Home Hospice for their care and compassion.
