Carly was diagnosed with a rare sub-type of Acute Myeloid Leukemia known as APML when she was 21 months old. APML accounts for only 10% of all AML diagnoses. This rare form of Leukemia is typically found in older men, not toddler girls. Carly is a warrior and thanks to the doctors, nurses and research, Carly will grow up to be a healthy and beautiful person, inside and out. Other people are not as lucky as Carly and lose their battle to this terrible disease. But, with money to support research and doctors, we can one day defeat cancer. Imagine a world without cancer.
As the world's largest non-profit dedicated to fighting blood cancers, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is leading the offensive to dramatically improve outcomes for AML patients. The time is right. Today, for the first time in history, we have the scientific knowledge, technology, therapies and partnerships needed to revolutionize how we study, test, and treat AML—we are on the threshold of real breakthroughs. LLS has mapped out a comprehensive, multi-pronged effort to defeat this disease. The initiative, called Beat AML, is comprised of the following four components:
- Genetic Study: Map the disease using cutting-edge technology and big data to determine the genetic mutations that drive AML and test a wide variety of targeted drugs and drug combinations to determine which drugs are effective against which mutations;
- Master Trial: Conduct a multi-arm, multi-institution clinical trial that takes a precision medicine approach, using genetic screening to quickly determine which type of AML a patient has and match that patient with the right targeted treatment at diagnosis;
- Ongoing AML Research: Continue conducting seminal research to better understand the biology and pathways of AML and to develop new targeted therapies against them;
- Patient Support and Professional Education: Provide programs and services that support AML patients and educate healthcare professionals on cutting-edge treatments available.
Please join us in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to our fundraising campaign. Your support will help fund the therapies and treatments and help save lives today.
LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled. On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support!
