Steve’s Story
Steve Brodsky was unexpectedly diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on December 24, 2012. Great courage and a successful first round of chemotherapy brought Steve into remission 5 weeks later. He was scheduled to undergo a bone marrow transplant at the beginning of April 2013. But in mid-March the cancer suddenly returned. Despite tireless efforts by his doctors to manage the relapse, Steve passed away on March 22, 2013.
Devastated, his family and friends struggle to process this loss and how to move forward.
Steve relentlessly pursued and promoted joy. Soon after moving to San Francisco from Washington DC with his wife Anna in 2004, he built a successful career as an artist manager, promoter, and executive in the music industry by doing what he loved most -- making other people happy. Steve effortlessly balanced an honest code of business savvy with innate street sense. He was fiercely competitive and determined, yet his optimism was contagious.
Steve surrounded himself with family and a large network of friends. Notably, this community formed a rock-solid floor of strength beneath Steve during his fight with AML. To know Steve was to love him. As one of his oldest friends stated: Steve’s legacy of joy, love, and kindness binds us together like the strands of some great, invisible web – a web he effortlessly spun with his perpetual smile and ability to make us feel special as individuals.
With this foundation we hope to expand the bond that Steve created. Our goal is to foster a community that surrounds cancer patients and their families while honoring Steve's legacy.
About The Event
For the second year, your generous support will be invested in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s partnership with Celator Pharmaceuticals to develop a revolutionary therapy for AML patients showing very promising results throughout clinical trials. As the first major breakthrough in treating AML in more than 40 years, this new therapy looks to greatly improve survival rates and become the new promising therapy for AML patients. Results from a Phase 3 trial show that CPX-351 produced a response rate in 47.7% of patients versus 33.3% in patients who received the standard of care regimen. This is an improvement of more than 43%!
The National Capital Area Chapter has committed to raising $1 million towards this partnership and they are only $180,000 away from their goal - we can all make a difference by helping them reach this goal. For more information on this trial, please visit the LLS website.
