Did you know that South Dakota Gives is Tues., Dec. 3? Each year, generous supporters like you celebrate South Dakota Gives Day by making online donations and connecting further to organizations that they believe in. Here’s why you should believe in us:

  • Since Jan. 2017, LLS helped advance 45 of the 51 blood cancer treatment options approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. To give you a sense of how extraordinary this is, in the past a good year for FDA approvals would have included two to three new treatment options.

  • Our blood cancer research is leading the way for breakthroughs in other cancers and diseases. LLS-funded treatments are now being used to treat bone, brain, prostate, ovarian and breast cancers, melanoma, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and many more diseases.

  • We are providing critical education and support to patients and families right here in our community. Last year alone, $2.4 million was distributed to patient families in our MN, ND, SD Chapter, with over $350,000 specifically for South Dakota patients.

  • With LLS’s powerful policy advocacy efforts, you help make sure that our friends and neighbors can access the care and treatment they need.

Help us hit our goal of raising $5,000 on 12/3/19!

And just as important - please connect with our chapter efforts in SD. Check out what events/programs we have going on in our community:

The Pennies for Patients

The Pennies for Patients program is for elementary, middle and high schools that would like to support LLS’s mission of fighting blood cancers by conducting a fundraising campaign in their school. Pennies is a science-based philanthropy program where students gain the unique experience of helping thousands of youth and adults in their fight against blood cancers. We connect schools with local blood cancer patients, provide tangible social and emotional learning skills to students and allow students to see the impact they are making in the lives of others. Students of the Year

Students of the Year is a 7 week philanthropic leadership development challenge where local high school students, grades 9-12, will compete for a $2,500 scholarship to the college or university of their choice. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to walk hand in hand with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and mentors to learn team management; gain skills in marketing, communication and networking; and build their resume! Students will meet our Honored Heroes to have a personal connection in the fight against blood cancers and see how their efforts will have a lifelong effect on patients and themselves.  Learn more about Students of the Year in South Dakota.

Light The Night

Participants at Light The Night experience an incredible celebration of hope! Festivities for all ages include a glow zone, glam station, team photo booth, food trucks, live music and much more. Participants enjoy an uplifting program and a powerful survivor ceremony. Loved ones lost to cancer are remembered by participants in the remembrance pavilion. At dusk, hundreds will walk to light up Falls Park with iconic Light The Night lanterns and the evening ends with a spectacular fireworks show. Nearly 1,000 participants enjoyed the first-ever Light The Night in Sioux Falls on September 12, 2019. Light The Night is held in September or October each year.
