Alexandra (Lexie) Marie Clayton, 36, Fairway, Kansas, passed away on September 4, 2019, after battling breast cancer with courage, dignity, and grace since her original diagnosis in April 2017. Lexie was born on September 17, 1982 in Milwaukee, WI and was raised in Murray, KY, Lenexa, KS, and Algonquin, IL.
Lexie was a proud graduate of the University of Kansas, majoring in Art and Design, and celebrated Jayhawk traditions with the utmost enthusiasm. Upon moving to Kansas City, she began her professional career with Black & Veatch. Lexie and husband Matt then relocated to Philadelphia, where she entered the world of nonprofit, working with The Center For Emerging Visual Artists. The couple then continued their journey together, moving to Atlanta, and Lexie found a role centered on raising funds and awareness for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She continued advancing the mission of the LLS organization upon transferring to the Mid-America chapter after moving back home to Kansas City in 2016.
Lexie was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Bernice and Harold Jellison, uncle Allan Jellison, aunt Judy Linzenmeyer, and uncle Mike Slagle; paternal grandparents Lee and Richard Jachowicz, aunt Mary Bloch, aunt Kathy Bryant and uncle Mark Stamm.
Lexie is survived by her adoring husband Matthew Clayton, parents Patti and Phil Jachowicz, brother Jeff Jachowicz and sister-in-law Lynette, and cherished niece and nephew Chloe and Maddox Jachowicz. She also is survived by her dear aunts, uncles, and cousins, and by loving Riscoe and Clayton family members including mother-in-law Chris Riscoe, father-in-law Mark Clayton, sister-in-law Angie Clayton (Justin), and brother-in-law Father Barry Clayton. Lexie had a vast circle of devoted friends and colleagues who were there to see her through tough times and to celebrate the good times. She also leaves behind her beloved dogs, Bentley and Maddie, who made her smile everyday.
In remembrance of Lexie's upcoming birthday on September 17, for anyone wanting to remember and celebrate her charitable spirit we ask that you choose your own individual act of kindness or service on that day, in hopes it will continue to spread the goodness of her heart from here forward.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Lexie's honor to her namesake memorial fund with LLS. You can make the donation on this page or make donations payable to "LLS" and mail to 6811 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Suite 202, Overland Park, KS 66202.
Despite her health challenges, Lexie and Matt lived life to the fullest with their friends and family. Her positive spirit truly inspired and touched everyone she encountered including the outstanding and kind KU Med doctors, nurses, and staff who she appreciated and encouraged to be steadfast in their cancer research and to ultimately discover a cure.
