Maeve's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 05, 2021

Dear Friends, Family and Neighbors,

I am so excited and grateful to announce that I will again be participating as a team member in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) “Students of the Year” campaign! The “Students of the Year” campaign is a seven week fundraising program, beginning on January 7th, 2021, where high school students in Northeast Ohio work with each other to raise funds that go toward the overall goal, which is ending blood cancer. Our team’s goal is to raise $100,000 during the seven week period with the help of our community.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting blood cancers. Since 1949 they have invested over $1.3 billion into research that will help find cures for blood cancer. The mission of LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, along with helping patients and their families as much as possible throughout their treatment.

A few months ago I was offered the opportunity to join Bay High’s LLS fundraising team for the second year in a row and I took it right away. Cancer has touched the lives of most people in some way shape or form and is not an easy journey. In 2014 my grandma told me she had something called “cancer”and that she was very sick. The next 11 months were long and painful and later that year, my grandma passed away of esophageal cancer. Watching her go through that pain and not being able to do anything about it was unbearable for my family and we miss her everyday. Then in 2018  I found out that my middle school cross country coach and a close family friend of ours, Theresa, was battling lymphoma. She was in incredible shape and so healthy but somehow it still happened. She fought through six months of chemotherapy and is now in remission. Cancer doesn’t stop for anyone and it is not fair that every 3 minutes someone has their world rocked with a blood cancer diagnosis. I invite you to join Team Overcome in our mission to stand up to cancer!

To support our efforts, you can donate online by visiting my website https://events.lls.org/noh/nohSOY21/mransom , or if you wish to donate through the mail please make your check payable to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and mail to my address 160 Kensington Circle, 44140, Bay Village, OH. Make sure to print our team name, ¨TeamOvercome” in the memo section. *Your donations are tax deductible. Any and all donations no matter how small help to get us one step closer to our goal.

As a community of fighters and supporters, I truly believe that we will make a lasting impact. For more information, please feel free to contact me at maeve.ransom@gmail.com or 216-904-0404. Let’s fight this together.

Sincerely,

Maeve Ransom and Team Overcome

Maeve's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Oct 15, 2020

As a global leader in the fight to end cancer, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is committed to doing more for blood cancer patients and families than any organization in the world. Our signature and innovative fundraising campaigns like Students of the Year drive critical support for their mission – to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, myeloma and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

Students of the Year is a seven-week fundraising program for high school students, like myself, in the Greater Cleveland area. Over the next few weeks, I will be raising critical dollars in honor of two local blood cancer survivors, Tim and Colin.

Every dollar raised equals one vote. The team that raises the most funds receives the title Student(s) of the Year.

I believe that beating cancer is in our blood. Cancer is a bully, but I am not afraid to stand up and fight. I invite you to stand with me and join the fight!

By donating, you support the many facets of their mission work from investing in groundbreaking research, providing education and support to patients, and advocating at the state and federal level for legislation to help those living with cancer. Together, we have the power, the passion and the resolve to achieve a world without blood cancer. All donations are tax-deductible.

On behalf of blood cancer patients and their families everywhere, we sincerely thank you for your generous support!
