Student Visionaries of the Year Washington DC
Sydney and Nina Allen | Team 15 Soldiers
Team's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser
Hi! My name is Sydney Allen and along with my twin sister, Nina Allen, we are candidates in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign (LLS SVOY). In the picture above are some of our closest friends who are all members of our 2023 LLS SVOY team– 15 Soldiers. For the next seven weeks, we are all dedicating ourselves to one goal: raise at least $100,000 for LLS’s mission!!
One thing we are constantly reminded of is this: cancer doesn’t discriminate. Nearly everyone has someone in their lives who has been in some way affected by cancer. For me, it’s my dad. Not only is my dad an incredible role model and support system, but he is also a cancer survivor. After a bone marrow transplant and follow up treatments in 1998, he has been cancer free for 25 years! In 2011, wanting to give back, he made a huge difference by spearheading his own campaign for LLS, winning the title of Man of the year by raising $174,000!! Now, we are running a campaign to continue his legacy by leading our own team in raising money for LLS.
We hope you’ll be a part of this Herculean effort by donating directly. The link is below. We’ve also included information about the inspiring and life-saving work that is being done at LLS and the tremendous impact being made by amazing student visionaries across the country. Will you join us?

Why LLS?
LLS is changing lives!
-
Research: Research is the key to advancement and ultimately finding a cure.
-
Education: One of the most overlooked parts of the devastation of cancer is the monetary cost. LLS helps to ease this burden by providing free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
-
Advocacy: In order to spread the word on its mission, LLS mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes at the federal, state and local level that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
Why support the LLS SVOY campaign?
-
OVER 108 million dollars raised since 2017
-
LLS has also started investing in research geared towards children with blood cancer. They have pledged $175 million over the next five years to support global, collaborative research and treatments for children's blood cancers.
-
They also took initiative and have started the LLS PedAL Master Clinical Trial, widening their range of free education, 1:1 support services, financial assistance and advocacy on behalf of all children and their families.
Together, we can fight back. Together, we can make real change. Together we can end cancer.
