Madigan's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Feb 27, 2023

It is Week 6 of my 7-week Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign! I am excited to say that Rams 4 a Cure is 95% of the way to our $45,000 goal thanks to incredible supporters like you!  If you are interested in supporting the campaign, click on this button to give to LLS.

This campaign has allowed me the opportunity to learn about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), their mission, and the impact they have on our community. The mission of LLS, to eradicate blood cancers, support patients during their fight, to provide financial support for patients, and also provide monetary support for much needed research, has been inspiring.

Among those inspiring me personally are our friends and neighbors Dr. Hally and his wife, Deana.  Dr. Hally was diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma in November, 2022.   Dr. Hally recently finished 6 weeks of chemotherapy and received the exciting news that the chemo is working!  But, he’s not done yet.

In the coming weeks, your thoughts and prayers are especially needed for Dr. Hally and his family as he takes the next steps to achieving remission.  The tests Dr. Hally will have this week determine the next course of action which we all hope includes  Stem Cell Transplantation (SCT) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Please continue to pray for Dr. Hally that his tests go well this week, and continue to pray for  him as he undergoes the harvesting of stem cells, more chemotherapy in New York, and then the transplantation of his stem cells.  It is a long process and the Hally’s will be doing this away from home.  His recovery will require much seclusion as he will be immunocompromised. We look forward to seeing Dr. Hally in full remission when the summer months arrive!

The cutting edge treatment, Stem Cell Transplantation, that Dr. Hally will undergo is made possible in part by LLS donors like you!  Understanding the importance of research and finding new treatments has been one of the more enlightening things I have learned during this campaign, and understanding that Dr. Hally needs this treatment makes this campaign that much more meaningful to me!  Please consider giving- your donation makes a difference.  It is not too late to join us in this fight before this campaign closes on March 11.  No amount is too small and all donations are tax deductible.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Madigan Rustia

Madigan Rustia Rams 4 A Cure

I am proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise $45,000 for LLS’s mission.  I am co-leading a twelve-person team, Rams 4 A Cure, with Alexa Haynie.  Our team is committed to raising money for Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Hodgkin’s disease over a 7 week span from January 21st through March 11th.

Since learning about LLS Student Visionaries and planning this campaign in August 2022, a close family friend and adored neighbor, Dr. Bob Hally,  was told the devastating news that he has Lymphoma. My hope is to bring attention to the wonderful work done by LLS in Research, Advocacy, and Patient Support, and to raise money for LLS to continue to make a difference in the lives and families touched by this diagnosis.

Dr. Bob is known for his kindness, generosity, and obvious love of the Philadelphia Eagles!  He is a big supporter of others, a people person, and he brings good cheer wherever he goes. The Hallys have always been supporters of LLS.  They even introduced our family to the wonderful work of LLS years ago as the coordinators of the LLS summer swim team LLS Swim-a-thon!

Dr. Bob was diagnosed with AngioImmunoblastic t-cell Lymphoma in the middle of November and started chemotherapy almost immediately. His team of specialists are located in New York and Virginia.  He remains in great spirits, as long as the Eagles keep winning, and looks forward to beating cancer!  Dr. Bob has a magnanimous personality.  As a serious NY Giants fan, he even has me rooting for the Eagles!

In honor of Dr. Bob Hally, I strive to bring awareness to LLS.  I hope and pray that the mission of LLS continues to be supported so that one day all blood cancers are eradicated and no more friends and families receive this diagnosis.  Please keep Dr. Bob in your thoughts and prayers!

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. No amount is too small. Please share my website and tell friends who would also like to donate!

If you or someone you know would like to be a corporate sponsor, in-kind gift donor, donate to a silent auction, or advertise in the Washington DC area LLS Grand Finale gala brochure, please reach out to me.
