Student Visionaries of the Year Washington DC
Alyssa Wiener | Team Barons Crush Blood Cancer
Alyssa's Student Visionaries of the Year Washington DC Fundraiser
Hey! I am Alyssa Wiener, a sophomore at BCC, and more importantly, a co-captain of Team Barons Crush Cancer, participating in the 2023 Student Visionaries of the Year campaign!
My motivation is David Holder, a close family friend who was lost to Lymphoma cancer. My co-captain is the son of David, Reed, who lost his father at just the age of one. As we started to formulate a team, and diligently planned fundraising events, Reed explained to me he felt his dad would be extremely proud of the efforts we are putting into LLS. As you can imagine, this motivates me beyond belief, and I am putting all I can into this campaign. Because David died when Reed and I were only one year old, I have only gotten the privilege to know David through the adoring stories my parents have told but have come to realize he was truly always motivated to do good.
My sister Jessie and Eli Holder, the oldest son of David, did the same work for LLS 4 years ago. Reed and I have been patiently waiting to follow in their footsteps, and even took a photo at their Gala in hopes to recreate it. Now here we are with Team Barons Crush Cancer!
Team Barons Crush Cancer has a ton of exciting events coming up, and we'd love for you to come! A charity soccer tournament, t-shirt sales, and a pizza night are just the start of events planned for February, and we can't wait to get all the dates finalized to send out formal invites!
My personal goal is to raise $5,000 between January 21st and March 11th. It’s a lofty goal, but I am willing to work hard to reach it. I cannot do it alone; I need your help!

It means a lot for me to be able to fundraise in honor of David, and I hope through my fundraising we can take one step closer to finding a cure. Any donation truly makes a difference!
I can’t wait to share the exciting updates over the next seven weeks with you. Stay tuned to see what my team and I can accomplish!
