Atlanta Students of the Year
Kyle Meng | Zac's Pac - Atlanta
Welcome to Kyle Meng's SOY Fundraising Page!
My name is Kyle Meng. I am a junior at Milton High School and this year I am honored to be competing for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) 2018 Students of the Year (SOY). SOY is a seven-week fundraising competition to raise money to support LLS.
My personal goal is to raise $10,000!
I am ABOUT $200 away from my goal!!!
I need your help in achieving this goal.
Every dollar you contribute makes a difference and 100% of the funds go directly to LLS.
Did you know?
- Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer
- Every 10 minutes, someone dies.
- Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20
- Due to support from people like you, the relative five-year survival rate for patients with leukemia has more than tripled in the past 46 years.
It is not too late to join me in this fight!
Thank you for your support!
Why does this campaign mean so much to me?
What happens when time runs out?
For my cousin Zac Disher, that day came in March 2012 when, despite the best treatment available, he lost his battle against Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. He was only 28 years old and had been fighting for his life for nearly 3 years.
Zac’s treatments at Siteman Cancer Center and the National Institute of Health (NIH) included a bone marrow transplant, various experimental treatments, and clinical trials. The treatment worked for a while, but then stopped. Zac was one of the first people enrolled in the T-cell trial at the NIH, but he got too sick too fast to participate. Zac ran out of time. Thankfully, this treatment is now seeing great success for people who are resistant to other forms of treatment.
Less than a year after the passing of my cousin, I lost my grandma, Debbie Bextermueller, to cancer as well.
At that moment, I decided to make it my mission to help find a cure for cancer, not someday, but today.
Approximately every 9 minutes, someone in the US dies from a blood cancer. Time is the enemy. But the work that LLS does reaches far beyond just blood cancers. LLS research grants have funded many of today's most promising advances and given patients and families more time. They save lives. My cousin, Zac was a part of a a Revlimid trial that extended his life by a year and a half! Can you imagine the gift of getting extra time with a loved one? My family lost 2 members way too early in life and I don't want other families to experience that loss.
Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to my campaign. Don’t forget to request a matching donation if your company matches! All donations are greatly appreciated. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Donations must be received between January 12th and March 2nd @ 3 PM.

As a bone marrow transplant nurse, I've lost many patients to leukemia and lymphoma but thanks to new treatments and research promoted by LLS, we have a whole lot of survivors. I have my first patient receiving CAR-T cell therapy this month! Thank you for doing this, Kyle!

Very proud of Kyle Meng for working so hard on this fundraising event. As he mentioned, he has lost numerous family members to cancer including numerous ancestors whom he never had the opporunity to meet. Over the past few years, Kyle has participated in several other cancer fundraisers which included having his head shaved several times. He really cares about how cancer has hurt so many, and he is doing his best to fight it.
