Dear friends and family, 

I am pleased to announce that my fellow Oak Knoll classmate, and friend Emma Kilgallen and I have been nominated as 2021 Students of the Year candidates for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). This is a seven-week fundraising campaign that starts January 16th and ends on March 7th. My team, (JE)t for a Cure and I are working hard to fundraise a goal of 25,000 dollars in honor of the people we know who have battled cancer and may have to fight later on. Unfortunately, my Grandma Jeanette lost her battle to breast cancer around 7 years ago, seeing her go through this very painful and scary experience encourages me to want to help prevent other people from going through what I did. My parents were also both diagnosed and survived different types of cancer. This shows me that it is possible and with all the sad losses, there are good outcomes. But with more research, less and less people will have to go through what I did. From experience, I have been told the words, “I have cancer” by my loved ones much more than I would like to say, and I want to be able to make as little people go through that. Although it was not always Leukemia or Lymphoma, a cure to one cancer opens a window of opportunity to cure all other kinds. This is what your thoughtful and generous donations to LLS will contribute to when looking for the cure.
