Dear Friends,

My name is Tommy Atkinson, and I am a sophomore at Mission College Prep. Throughout my life, I have always tried to take advantage of my opportunities, and today I’d like to talk to you about my greatest one: the chance to save lives.

MY OPPORTUNITY:

I have been nominated as a 2019 Students of the Year candidate for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). This is a seven-week fundraising campaign that lasts from March 13th to May 3rd. The Opportunity Team and I are working hard to reach our fundraising goal of $10,000, and hopefully exceed it by leaps and bounds! Through this campaign, funds will go to support LLS’s mission in its efforts to find cures for blood cancers and research new forms of treatment for patients nationwide.

THEIR OPPORTUNITY:

Along with research, LLS is dedicated to assisting families affected by blood cancers, including Mateo Cota, a 7 year old from Arroyo Grande who recently received a bone marrow transplant from his older brother while battling Leukemia, and Claire Noland, a sweet 6-year-old girl from SLO who is now cancer free following her battle with Lymphoma. Unfortunately, my grandma Dot died from Lymphoma in 1991 due to the low amount of treatment at that time. Thanks to LLS, there’s a chance, an opportunity, for patients worldwide to get better treatment, more home assistance, and spread more awareness for their struggles in order to advocate for donations toward our mission.
