Dear Friends and Family,

My name is Case Schatz, and I am a junior at Arroyo Grande High School. Throughout my life, I have always tried to take advantage of my opportunities, and today I’d like to talk about one of by far the greatest ones: the chance to save lives!

My opportunity:
I have been nominated as a 2020 Students of the Year candidate for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). This is a seven-week fundraising campaign that lasts from February 12- April 3. Through this campaign, funds will go to support LLS’s mission in its efforts to find cures for blood cancers and research new forms of treatment for patients nationwide. I personally have a few connections to the reach of Leukemia and Lymphoma, and cancers in general, so this fundraiser and opportunity means a lot to me. My grandmother is a leukemia survivor, and my uncle is currently fighting lymphoma. Additionally, a close friend of mine is currently undergoing chemotherapy to fight Lymphoma, and it has had a massive impact on himself and his family, along with other close friends that we share, as well as myself. Although this has been a newer development, I have already seen the impacts that this has and can have on everyone, even those you wouldn’t think are involved at all.

THEIR OPPORTUNITY:

Along with research, LLS is dedicated to assisting families affected by blood cancers.  I am further inspired by a San Luis Obispo County brother and sister, Dylan and his younger sister Teagan, who battled blood cancers at different times and lived to share their stories as a family. Thanks to LLS, there’s a chance, an opportunity, for patients worldwide to get better treatment, more home assistance, and spread more awareness for their struggles in order to advocate for donations toward our mission. For the story of Dylan and Teagan, LLS helped cover their constant driving costs, which they would never of been able to afford as they had to drive a decent amount to get to the hospital that they needed to go to. I personally think it’s an amazing program and non-profit that is irreplaceable, and has made a lasting impact on this research while leading and developing new strategies to fight these blood cancers. After all, as they say, fighting cancer is in our blood!

YOUR OPPORTUNITY:

I know almost everyone has had an experience to connect them to the tragedy that is cancer, and if you haven’t you know someone who has. All I, and the community and wonderful people behind LLS can ask, is for you to donate to help fund the cause that is fighting blood cancers like Leukemia and Lymphoma:

To donate online, please visit my fundraising page through this link: https://events.lls.org/cca/slosoy20/cschatz .

To donate by mail, please make your check payable to: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and print “Case Schatz" in the memo section. Please use the enclosed response form to mail your donation to 789 Manuela Way, Arroyo Grande CA 93420

I am honored to participate as a team member for the 2020 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to support my candidate and am raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
