Hello all, 

We are Kate and Danielle Roarke, two sisters who want to tell you about our effort to make a difference for the purpose of furthering cancer research. We are doing this alongside our friend Brennan Dragomer who we’ve met through the years in school. We are supporting him by participating in a team effort to make a positive difference in the world!

Leukemia causes more deaths in children under twenty than any other cancer. While there is a 90% survival rate currently for children diagnosed with these harmful, we are still losing too many people to this disease. We have taken on the incredible mission of being a part of curing not just leukemia, but all cancers. We are participating in a fundraising effort called Student of the Year that runs from January 14 - March 6th . Brennan has set an ambitious goal of raising $50,000 in those fast 7 weeks, and it is our job to get as close as we can. Funds raised will go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, whose research benefits all cancer patients. More than 40% of the new cancer treatment drugs approved by the FDA since 2005 started as blood cancer drugs but are now being applied in other forms of cancer. The creativity that is happening in LLS-funded trials is impacting the future, and we are proud to join the battle to cure cancer!

Our personal goals and motivations behind participating in this impactful campaign are to benefit funding, awareness, and support for all types of cancer research, in addition to blood cancer research, as we know that a variety of types of cancer affects different people and their families in different ways. We are determined to assist in creating a positive future for cancer patients and everyone surrounding them. Danielle and I are motivated to be apart of a movement with this generation that reaches out their generous arms to help people in need. We see the opportunity for people in their community to work together for a greater cause, and this year wanted to jump in and face it head-on by inspiring other people to do the same!

We are motivated by knowing we will be helping others and have a real impact on cancer research. Danielle and I have learned that the treatments are getting better and better, but there is still so much work to be done. We are inspired by Brennan’s passion and commitment and want to also be a part of the change. But, we cannot do it alone!
