Colleen's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Feb 12, 2022

Dear Family and Friends,

I have been given the amazing opportunity to be a part of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Students of the Year 2022 Campaign. This is a seven-week fundraising competition to raise money in support of LLS starting February 5th, 2022 - March 26th, 2022.

As a part of Team aMaising led by my goddaughter Maisy Wadlow, I will be working to help raise the funds necessary to benefit those who need them. I am asking my friends and family to help us assist the efforts of the LLS to find a cure for blood cancer.

I am very passionate about helping LLS as my niece Amy was diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of 10, and she is now a 29 year old, happily- married, occupational therapist! Learning of her diagnosis many years ago seemed overwhelming and lonely.  LLS has served not only as an incredible source of information, but  it also proved to be a great ally and  support.  Unfortunately over the years, our family has encountered numerous families who have been impacted by leukemia and this has motivated us to continue the fight and support efforts like Student of the Year to raise needed funds. My own husband was Man of the Year in 2019 and my daughter Claire, Student of the year 2020.

Each charitable dollar you contribute to our campaign makes an impacting difference. One hundred percent of these funds go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission to cure Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and Myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Not only is LLS helping patients with blood cancers, but LLS is going beyond blood cancer by funding more than 60% of the blood cancer therapies being used to treat other cancers.

  • Blood cancers account for more than 40% of all childhood cancers, and most children are treated with the same toxic combinations of chemotherapies developed decades ago for adults, leaving them with lifelong complications. It is because of patients like Daeshawn and Leighton, that LLS has created the LLS Children’s Initiative with a commitment to expand their investment in research and therapies to allow young patients to not only survive their cancer, but thrive in their lives after treatment.

Please join us to help support the efforts of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  By making a donation in any amount, you are supporting the programs and critical research LLS is doing. Our aggressive, yet capable campaign goal over this seven-week period is and all donations must be received by March 26th, 2021.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Colleen Katz
