I am very excited to be running for Student of the Year this year! As many of you may know, when I was 3 I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). This year will mark 9 years of being cancer-free. I am very passionate about raising money for LLS because of their research and progress over the years. 

The mission of LLS is very personal to me. Blood cancer has had an impact on my life by taking 2 ¼ years of my childhood away. When I was just 3 years old, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  I spent 6 months visiting the oncology clinic once a week for chemo. Life was just getting back to normal, or as normal as it could be, when I contracted Pneumocystis Pneumonia. I spent 21 days in the hospital, 11 of the days in the ICU on a ventilator with only a 40% chance of surviving. I fought so hard and impressed the doctors with how quickly I was able to recover and once I left, I never spent another night in the hospital. After 2 years of treatment, which must have been horrible for my parents, I was finally back to being a happy, and healthy kid.

In April 2012, I finished my treatment and have never looked back. Without LLS, I wouldn’t have survived through Leukemia and I have a passion for giving back. In 2015, I became the Honored Hero for LLS’s Student Series program, and then in 2017 I was the Girl of the Year for LLS, which leads me to today, running for LLS’s 2021 Students of the Year! My campaign will provide support to the critical work of LLS in hopes that one day no one will have to grow up without the ones they love due to cancer.
