Finley's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 10, 2023

Hello! My name is Finley Jacobs, and I am a 17 year old Student of the year candidate. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit this page and considering making a donation. It is people like you that change the world.

When I was 4 years old, my families life was turned upside down forever- my mother was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. Her battle with cancer changed the trajectory of my life in many ways. One of the earliest memories I have of my mom is seeing a frail, weak body laying in bed, IV dripping, and her tiny arms reaching out to give me a hug. Seeing the effect the deadly disease took on her and my family spurred me to make change. This is my second year raising money for LLS in the Student of the Year campaign- and the first year taking on a Leadership position as a candidate for the Student of the Year.  My mother made a full recovery and went on to publish a book about her experiences with cancer, and she is my biggest role model. This campaign is in every way in honor of her grit, elegance, and strength through dark times.

Cancer's effects are all around us- we see it in the news, with our loved ones, and maybe in ourselves. Everyone's lives have in some way been touched with the tragedy of leukmia, which is why I believe this campaign is so impactful to donate to. The money from this will go directly to the hands of researches working tirelessly for a cure, social workers who give counseling to those in hospice, and offer relief to the lives of hundreds of thousands. Every dollar counts.

I implore you to be the change you want to see in the world- every single donation counts towards a greater goal- hope to defeat this deathly disease.

Thank you for reading my story, and if you are curious to read my mother's insightful guide and personal story to breast cancer, you can find The Silver Lining in many major bookstores or on Amazon. :)

Finley's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
