Welcome to Jimmy Koel's SOY Fundraising Page!

HI, I'm Jimmy!  Thanks for visiting my LLS Campaign Page!

January 2019

Hello Friends & Family & Teachers & Community Members,

I have been nominated to participate in the Students of the Year campaign benefitting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).  This seven-week fundraising challenge raises funds for the fight against cancer and I was honored to join this year’s efforts as the 2019 Student of the Year candidate for Team Stayin’ Alive!  I am writing today to ask for your support of LLS’s mission in its efforts to find cures for blood cancers and to assist patients and families as they battle this disease.

From January 19, 2019 to March 7, 2019 candidates and their teams raise funds which will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission to find cures and ensure patients access to the treatments they need.  The candidate that raises the most is awarded a scholarship.  Our team goal is to raise $10,000.

As a Junior at Germantown High School, the opportunity to become a philanthropist and give back to the community was appealing to me. Cancer affects so many people.  My Papa passed away from cancer 3 years ago.  If we could find more cures for cancer my Papa would be still be here today cheering me on as I run Cross Country.  My good friend’s brother battled cancer and I know the pain and suffering that he and his family endured and thankfully he is now a cancer survivor!  And then there’s Isaiah, a 3rd grader from Theresa, WI who beat Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and is our Honored Hero this year!  As a high schooler, I can do my part to raise money and positively affect the lives of many people!  I’m honored to take on this role and challenge.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society supports research, education and patient services that have benefited blood cancer patients and other cancer patients including brain, blood, breast, kidney, liver, lung, ovarian, pancreatic and prostrate cancer.  This year alone, LLS is celebrating:

  • FDA approval of 19 new blood cancer therapies, 16 of which were supported by LLS
  • $42 million:  LLS commitment to new multi-year research grants in current fiscal year
  • Over $2 million to co-pay assistance distributed to close to 1,000 patients in WI

This is an organization that is doing the right things with the dollars it raises and I’m proud to be associated with LLS.  One more thing, my friend Hannah, whose Dad has Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, raised enough money last year as Student of the Year to have the honor of naming a research project that has specifically helped her Dad! In fact, in 2017, there were 2 Leukemia drugs that became FDA approved for Hannah’s Dad.  I’d say that’s good news!

This is where you come in.

You can make a tax deductible contribution to LLS.   You can donate online right here!  You will receive a confirmation of your donation by email and I will be notified as soon as you make your donation.

Then, I’d ask that you reach out to others you know and ask them to do the same.  My fundraising link is:  https://events.lls.org/wi/milwaukeesoy19/jkoel  I have found that so many of the people I talk to about our team’s efforts have a connection to cancer and want to get involved.  Should you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly by email at jimmykoel1@gmail.com or on my cell at 262-327-8857.

Many thanks, in advance, for supporting me in this important challenge and philanthropic opportunity!

Sincerely,

Jimmy Koel
