I am humbled by the opportunity to be a Candidate for Students of the Year and be involved with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as a volunteer and advocate. I am excited to partake in this amazing opportunity because just like many others in our community, my life has been personally touched by blood cancer. Presently, my Great Grandmother - Sally Gant is in remission for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and my Great Grandfather Bob Winters has been in and out of treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia for multiple years now. Additionally, one of my closest family friends - Brooke Cardoza is now in remission for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, but through participating in her journey to combat cancer in her support circle, I was enlightened on the work of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through the Fox Cities Light the Night Walk. This opportunity to partake in an LLS event helped me understand that LLS develops a global community, that is joined together hand-in-hand to put an end to blood cancer!
