Students of the Year Fox Valley
Trenton Bauer | Community for a Cure
"There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about." – Margaret J. Wheatley
I am honored to be participating as a candidate in the 2020 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to be leading a campaign called “Community for a Cure” and am raising critical dollars in honor of Portia, a 4 year-old girl from Appleton, Wisconsin who is in remission from leukemia.
I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with the LLS, as it is truly a worthwhile cause for which we are fighting. We all know someone who has been impacted by these diseases, and thus LLS’s mission is touching the lives of many. From this impact, the name “Community for a Cure” was born! I feel that some of the most impactful changes can be made on a local scale, when a community comes together, making change that is meaningful and impactful, as the LLS is doing. I am proud to be a catalyst for this change.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Each dollar is a vote for my campaign. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money, but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.
To donate, select "DONATE TODAY" above or mail a check directly to the LLS at:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Wisconsin Chapter,
6737 W Washington, Suite 2100, Milwaukee, WI, 53214
Write "Community for a Cure" in the memo line to credit our campaign.
Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
Stay tuned for community fundraisers and events!
With Appreciation,
Trenton Bauer

Dear Trenton: I am so very, very proud of one of my favorite students of all time!!!! You have done so much already in your young life and will accomplish much, much more!!! (I still think you should run for President someday!) My Mom had lymphoma in her younger years and just recently learned that at the age of 87, that she has leukemia. You are working hard for a great cause!!!! Best, Cheri Miller-Retired Clayton School Media Specialist

Thank you Trenton for caring enough to raise money for research to help find a cure for such a horrible disease. My sister died 6 years ago from the effects of leukemia at the young age of 52.
