Avery Ennis | Be the Change

My Why

Jan 28, 2023

Hello, y'all! I am Avery Ennis. I am a junior at Collegiate school and I chose to begin fundraising for LLS because of a family friend who received the heartbreaking news that she has Leukemia. The shock I felt was like no other. Unless you are affected by cancer, most people believe that it only happens to other people. In reality, anyone can be diagnosed with cancer. While the chances of having cancer in the United States are relatively low the total amount of people with cancer is 23 million. (1)*  In that 23 million only 1% is affected by Leukemia. Most of those diagnosed are children, who will live with the effects of cancer for the rest of their lives.

This year, I am honored to be nominated as a candidate for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2023 Virginia Student Visionaries of the Year campaign. This seven-week campaign that will run from February through March, in which high school students across the country compete to raise money and awareness for LLS. Today I ask for your support of my campaign and LLS’s mission to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

I have formed a team of committed friends and family to partner with me in my campaign. Together, we have set a fundraising goal of $25,000. Our team feels confident that we can achieve this ambitious goal with the support of our amazing friends and family members.

Thank you so much for supporting my fundraising campaign last year as a team member. Each contribution makes a huge difference in our fight against cancer. I am running my campaign in honor of Caroline Dunn, a friend who was diagnosed with Leukemia in September of 2021. She has been so brave and strong while battling this terrible disease and I cannot wait to see what she does in the future. If you want to support Caroline and others in their fight against cancer, please donate and use the hashtag #CaringforCaroline on Facebook and Instagram to let Caroline know you are supporting her. I am extremely grateful for your generosity and your donation will help end the fight against blood cancer.

Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer, which includes Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s, and Myeloma. LLS is the leader in advancing breakthroughs in blood cancer treatments. LLS is also committed to patient and family quality of life, providing free education as well as financial support to families facing a blood cancer diagnosis.

I thank you in advance for partnering with a campaign so close to my heart. Aside from personal donations, we would love to hear if your company or business may be interested in sponsoring my campaign. All your contributions to this worthy effort are greatly appreciated.
