Welcome to my fundraising page!
My name is Madeline Port and this year I am privileged to have been nominated as a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 2021 Students of the Year Campaign. Joining my campaign as my fellow candidate is my good friend Molly Hutchison. We have been best friends since first grade and are excited to work together to help others. We have compiled a wonderful team, “Mission Po$$ible”, of about 15 students and adults to help us achieve our goal. It is important for us to have a multigenerational team because we want to expand our reach to communities that we may not be otherwise familiar with.
I am currently a sophomore at Collegiate School in Richmond, Virginia. In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing violin, and attending classes at the School of Richmond Ballet. Though both school and dance have been virtual this year, I am grateful for the extra time I have to connect with my family and learn this amazing cause. I've also picked up new hobbies such as reading, baking, and crafting. I am so excited to be able to lead this team of outstanding individuals! Here's a picture of me in the early days of quarantine last spring.
From January 7th to February 27th, Mission Po$$ible's goal is to raise over $25,000! Yes, you read that correctly, more than $25,000 in 7 weeks, which will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission. We know this is an ambitious undertaking, but we know that we can achieve it with the help of our amazing friends and families.
We are leading this team in honor of our hero, 6-year-old Jaiden Scelzo, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in October 2016 on his second birthday. After a difficult six-month-long battle, we are happy to say that Jaiden is in remission. Jaiden’s story inspired us to participate in this great cause and do everything we can to help him and others who are affected by Leukemia and/or Lymphoma.
I encourage you to join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. By donating to LLS, you support the many facets of LLS’s mission work from investing in groundbreaking research, providing education and support to patients, and advocating at the state and federal level for legislation to help those living with cancer. Each and every dollar donated to LLS brings us closer to our goal to end blood cancer and makes an impact for cancer patients and their families.
LLS’s signature fundraising campaigns drive critical support for its mission, including a nearly $1.3 billion investment in cutting edge cancer research worldwide since it was founded in 1949. Since the 1960s, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled. LLS has helped millions impacted by cancer throughout its more than 70-year history, even funding breakthrough blood cancer research to advance lifesaving treatments and cures that is now helping patients with other cancers and diseases. That is why at LLS we say that beating cancer is in our blood.
Please visit my website as often as you can and share it with everyone you know who would also like to join us in the fight against cancer. Both Molly and I are certain our friends and family are the most generous and strongest among any of the candidates this year and we look forward to letting you know when our campaign has reached its goal! Together, we have the power, the passion and the resolve to achieve a world without blood cancer. All donations are tax-deductible.
