Mariana's Students of the Year Fundraiser
I have signed up to save lives with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and am working to raise as much as possible over the next 7 weeks. Every dollar raised counts as one vote for my campaign. The candidate(s) whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of Student or Students of the Year. Will you help me earn that title?
Today more than a million Americans are fighting a daily battle with blood cancers and every 4 minutes another person unwillingly joins the fight. I have been given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the battle and help those living with blood cancers. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has nominated me as a candidate in their inaugural “Student of the Year'' fundraising challenge, and I could not be more excited to make a difference in the lives of patients across the country. I am proud to lead my campaign team and work towards our goal to raise $20,000 during the next 7 weeks from January 20th to March 10th.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the largest donor to blood cancer research in the nation. I am honoring those who have battled blood cancers and raising money that will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission to find a cure and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Along with my team, I will work to increase awareness about the impact of blood cancers and the cutting-edge treatments that are currently being researched, as well as inspire others to join the fight to find a cure.
This past summer I had a procedural Hip-Surgery to repair my labral tear and bone impingement. A few weeks ago after I had already applied to be a candidate for LLS I found out I would need yet another surgery on my left side this coming January. Unfortunately, this conflicts with campaigning time and I would not be able to participate as the others would be able to nor on how I originally planned. This campaign is extremely important to me as it holds a special place in my heart as my Nonno battled stage 4 Lymphoma and was a survivor, he passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 21st, 2021 due to complications of Covid, and our family was unable to spend one last holiday with him. My Nonno was my hero and I want to be able to succeed in this campaign as much as I can to give back to the days he suffered. Not being able to walk on my own for about a month, and recovery enables my limits to proceed with this campaign in the way I had envisioned but I want to be able to make the best outcome of this situation in any way I can to make a positive impact and your contributions could greatly help me reach my goal in a way that I still can despite the things I would be limited from doing to allow this campaign to be even bigger. Moving forward, I recognize that absolutely anything helps and your involvement would be greatly appreciated. Leukemia and Lymphoma still cause more deaths than any other cancer among children under the age of 20. My campaign provides an opportunity to support the critical work of LLS in fighting these diseases.
