Edward's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Dec 08, 2024

My why

This year, I am proud to work with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) to raise funds and awareness in support of cancer research. My motivation is deeply personal, as I’ve seen firsthand how devastating cancer can be for families and loved ones.

Though I'm not directly affected by blood cancer, In 2015, I lost my grandpa to colon cancer. He was the person who introduced me to Marvel, showing me the world of superheroes and inspiring my childhood dreams. Watching Marvel movies together became our cherished tradition, and those memories remain some of my most treasured. His passing was an immeasurable loss, and the hardest part was feeling powerless, unable to do anything but stand by and watch. Gone forever from something that steals the lives of around 10 million people worldwide each year.

This sense of helplessness is one shared by many families affected by cancer. However, through LLS, I feel empowered to make a difference. I am joining this fight to help raise funds for critical research, provide support for patients, and create awareness so that no one has to face this battle alone.

Cancer takes so much from us—it breaks hearts, traumatizes families, and separates loved ones. Despite advances in treatment, it still persists and requires ongoing research and innovation. This is why LLS exists: to fund cutting-edge research, provide patient support, and save lives.

By supporting LLS, I know we are working toward a future where families don’t have to face the pain of losing someone they love. Together, we can make a difference. Thank you for joining me in this fight.

About Me

Hi, my name is Eddie Harris, I’m currently a senior at Albany Academy, balancing academics, leadership roles, and activities that I’m passionate about.

Over the years, I’ve worked hard to challenge myself and make a difference in my community. I’m proud to be the co-president and founder of my school’s Black Affinity Club, where I’m working to create meaningful change by fostering a safe and inclusive environment for students to share their experiences and celebrate diversity. Additionally, I am working with the director of the upper school to induce real change within the school. I’m also honored to serve as senior class president, where I work to represent my peers and strengthen our school community.

Athletics have also been a significant part of my life. I’ve been running track since 7th grade at a varsity level, and it has taught me invaluable lessons about perseverance, leadership, and teamwork. As track team captain, I’ve worked to inspire others while continuing to grow myself.

If you had told me a few years ago that I’d become the person I am today, I might not have believed you. Learning to step outside of my comfort zone and embrace the idea of being comfortable with the uncomfortable has been life-changing. This mindset has motivated me to strive for excellence in all that I do and to make a positive impact in the world around me.

When I’m not busy with my activities, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, who are my biggest support system. I cherish every moment we share, as my family is the most important part of my life. I feel incredibly blessed to have such a loving and caring family. My parents, along with my brother and sister, constantly inspire me to aim higher and achieve more than they ever have. They are not just my support system but also my greatest role models. I owe the reason I am the person I am today all to them.

Through all of these experiences, I’ve learned that being a leader isn’t just about titles—it’s about making a difference. That’s why I’ve joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s fundraising campaign. Together, we can create change and bring hope to those who need it most.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and for supporting this important cause!

Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
