Carmela's Student Visionaries of the Year Houston Fundraiser
My Why
Two very important women in my life have both dealt with a form of Cancer. With this program I am honoring my grandma Geri and my Aunt Rhonda, My grandmother having Colon Cancer and my Aunt having Liposarcoma. Finding a cure for blood cancer is so important to me because having that contributes so much to finding a cure for all types of cancers. Though these women are very strong, these diagnoses were very tough on my family and was a very scary experience for me. Unfortunately my Grandma lost her fight to Cancer however, my Aunt overcame her Cancer showing my family how much courage it takes to take on life and trust God. Being a part of this team and being able to contribute to this cause means the world to me and I can only hope to make as much of an impact on cancer patients' lives and their families as these amazing women have for me. Now more than ever, we need to take initiative and shine light on this scary and deadly disease.
Carmela's Student Visionaries of the Year Houston Fundraiser
Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.
I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.
This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.
As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:
- Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
- Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
- Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!
Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!

My sister Kathleen and brother-in-law Anthony are rightfully proud of their grandchildren! Carmela is an amazing young lady, and I am happy to have the chance to donate to this cause. My birth mother Rita and her brother Robert both lost their battles against colon cancer. It is heartbreaking that so many families are impacted by this disease! But we have hope for the future, thanks to foundations like this and people like Carmela who bring attention to this cause.

My husband and I are so proud of our granddaughter and her team (Team Just Cure It!) for their participation in raising awareness and funds to help LLS (The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) to achieve its mission. I was only 20 years old when I lost my mother to colon cancer and the pain she endured and her death traumatized me. Our family has lost loved ones to various types of cancer, but thankfully some have survived this horrific disease. We hope our contribution helps the LLS Student Visionaries of the Year campaign achieve its goal!
