Team Thrive

Jan 16, 2019

Hi, my name is Jack Greenberg and I’m a 16 year old sophomore from Emery High School in Houston, Texas. I am extremely honored and excited to be a part of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Student of the Year Campaign for Team Thrive.

In 2009 my uncle, Gary Gotlieb at the age of 42, passed away from esophageal cancer after a two and a half year long battle. I was inspired to join this fight because of my Uncle Gary, who was an inhibitor of tenacious spirit and refused to give even an inch to cancer on his fight. We have all been directly impacted by cancer in one way or another, whether through a family member, friend, or even yourself. I am calling on you to help make a difference in the effort to eradicate cancer by joining my team, to help fight the fight. This is no easy task, but I have put forth a plan to raise funds:

  • Striving to Thrive Poker Tournament

    • When: Sunday, February 17th, in the Afternoon

    • Where: Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral

      • 3511 Yoakum Blvd, Houston, TX 77006

    • Entry: $225

    • Grand Prize: 2 Round Trip Tickets to the Destination of Your Choice

    • More Information to Come

If you are not a poker player and would like to contribute to the cause then your impact can be made elsewhere, through a generous donation. We have until March 1st to raise as much money as we can. A contribution will assist the great strides towards the fight against blood cancer and is 100% tax deductible. Join me, and truly make an impact in the present so we can thrive for a better future.

Thank you for your support, and know that all donations make a difference, whether big or small.

Respectfully Yours,

Jack Greenberg

I am honored to participate as a team member for the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to support my candidate and am raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
