Team's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Sep 07, 2023

Whitmer High School has had a team participate in the Student Visionaries of the Year campaign for several years, and each year the predecessor chooses another team to continue on the Legacy of working hard to promote positive action for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s needs and interests. This year the Legacy will be upheld by seniors Olivia Declercq and Jordan Konz. Both Olivia and Jordan are involved in a plethora of activities within the school including Student Council, National Honors Society, Link Crew, and Math Honorary. They both play violin in the orchestra and are both successful competitors on the Speech and Debate Team where Jordan specializes in Congressional and World Schools Debate and Olivia competes in Lincoln Douglas and World Schools Debate. While both girls have jobs, they share a vested interest in their work as Trained Technicians for the school’s Panther Network and auditorium performances. In addition, each are varsity athletes, Olivia as a soccer player and Jordan as a swimmer. Outside of school they are members of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a pre-17th Century reenactment organization. Jordan is also a swim coach during the summer and helps tutor students in math. Olivia plays violin in the Greater Toledo International Strings Orchestra and sits on the board for the Avalon Foundation, a non-profit organization for children with HPP. Both girls are heavily dedicated to their community and pushing for the best the world can bring. “We only hope our campaign can help push forward the efforts to research and develop new treatments and understandings of blood cancer in order to save the lives of those whose condition is beyond their control.”

Team's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
