I am honored to participate in the 2020 Student of the Year Initiative, a seven week campaign among select highschoolers across the country to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I am proud to represent this organization because their work directly affects patients and their families through awareness, support, and research. Every dollar is critical because every donation helps LLS pursue this ambitious mission. 

I believe their work in providing support for patients and their families by giving them information about the newest clinical trials, support groups, and help keep track of appointments is commendable. My grandpa is currently fighting cancer in India and it is difficult for my parents to communicate with doctors, find his eligibility for the newest drugs, and give support remotely; so, I truly understand the important effect this help has on families that have received a diagnosis. Additionally, LLS has funded 44 of the 51 FDA approved clinical trials since 2017, showing its deep commitment to fighting blood cancers, the most common form of cancer in children and teens. Furthermore, many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients, but these drugs are now approved to treat patients with other cancers and autoimmune diseases. The foundation also advocates for laws, ensuring equal access to the care and treatments that patients need. 

We really are making strides in the fight against blood cancer!
