We all know what cancer is, and what it does to families around the world. My great grandmother died of Lymphoma stage 3 at a young age. I am sure each of us have a story or two to share about how this deadly cancer has affected our friends, family and other acquaintances. Did you know that every three minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with blood cancer and every nine minutes someone dies due to blood cancer. We currently have around 1.2 million people in the U.S.A. alone currently have or are in remission from a blood cancer. Did you know that Cancers are the second biggest cause of deaths in the World! Unfortunately, as we know, there is no cure for cancer till now. I am determined to change that in whatever way I can.

Hey everyone! My name is Surya Sripathi. I am a freshman at Evergreen Valley High School. This year, I wanted to make an impact on curing blood cancer through the non-profit Organization called the Leukemia and Lyphoma Society. LLS has been helping with funding research to help cure cancer in the long term as well as provide immediate assistance to help ease the pain for cancer patients and their family members. Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases.

I am participating in an event called “Students of the Year” which is a 7-week fundraising competition. Along with me are two other candidates, Abhinav Balla and Pranav Aida and many other teammates. We are working to raise funds to support this cause and we cannot do this without your help - big or small. Remember, your dollar could be the dollar that cures cancer! Please spread the word even if you are unable to donate. We want to raise funds for the cause, but we believe that spreading awareness about this disease can also go a long way.
