I was recently asked by a good friend, Mitchell Patterson, to be a part of “Team Alamo,” a team of Alamo Heights High School and St. Mary's Hall students who are raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) through their 5th annual Students of the Year Campaign. It is a seven-week campaign that runs from January 8th – February 27th in which high school students participate in a fundraising competition, with 21 other south Texas teams, to help the life-saving mission of LLS: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma. 

Team Alamo has an aggressive fundraising goal of $100,000 and we need plenty of help to reach it. We are passionate about this cause and are committed to raising funds, every cent of which will go directly to this amazing organization.

Unfortunately, each of our lives has been touched in some way by cancer. Like many of you, I've seen friends and family struggle through the awful consequences of cancer. At Alamo Heights High School I have a classmate who has Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I have personally seen the toll it has taken on her and want to do anything in my power to help and prevent suffering for those with blood cancer. By donating to our campaign, you are providing hope for a cure, hope for a future where cancer can no longer control lives.

The main way to help find a cure do is to raise money for more research and one clinical trial alone can cost $30 million. Team Alamo, my team consisting of 10 students and 3 adults, has a goal to raise $100,000 during the seven-week campaign.
