I’m Zainab (ZAY-nub), I’m 11, I attend the Francis Parker School as a 5th grader, and I’m the coolest person you’ll ever meet! Hehe.

Jokes aside, I’m also a leukemia survivor. When I was 3 years old, I was diagnosed with ALL (High Risk Pre B-Cell Acute Lymphoblasic Leukemia). After an EPIC road trip through Arizona, I was noticeably not being my cute, funny, kind, energetic, and AWESOME self. My parents knew something was up. One blood test led to a diagnosis of cancer, a 31 day hospital admission and surgery to place a “port” to administer chemotherapy for the following two years. Yeah, that was NOT fun. I lost most of my hair, along with over 2 years of my childhood where I couldn’t do everything a normal kid my age would.

I want a world where no kid has to go through what I did.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers. Since 1949, LLS has invested nearly $1.8 billion into blood cancer research. 

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission. I am a member of Team Khanfidence, which this year is led by my older brother, Amaan.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

• Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
• Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
• Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
