Dean's Students of the Year Fundraiser
Dear Friends and Family,
I want you to imagine hearing these three words, “You have cancer.”
Sadly, this has been a reality for more than 1.3 million Americans who are fighting or are in remission from blood cancer. Almost every high school student wants the chance to join in something that will change the world and this year I will have that chance.
I am excited to share that my team and I (Team Be the Change) are participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Students of the Year program. LLS is dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood cancers. They are the world's largest voluntary (nonprofit) health organization committed to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. Since 1949, LLS has invested in groundbreaking research, pioneering many of today’s most innovative approaches.
My Grandfather Kosta was diagnosed with lymphoma two years ago, as was my St. Spyridon’s Greek Orthodox Youth of America advisor, Stephanie Navrides. My grandfather was one of the lucky ones whose cancer is now in remission, but unfortunately, our beloved Mrs. Navrides, succumbed to the disease last summer.
We believe that great things are possible if we fight this as a community. Hopefully, there will be a time where no child, parents, grandparent, relative or friend will have to fear these types of cancer. I hope that you can join our fight and be the change with us!
It would mean a lot to me if you would consider donating to our campaign. Any donation small or large, is a step closer to curing blood cancer.
Sincerely,
Dean Lahanas
P.S. If you donate directly through my page, you will receive an email confirmation of your tax deductible donation as soon as it is made.
