Welcome to Team Compete For a Cure's SOY Fundraising Page!
We are honored to be candidates for the 2020 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Our team, Compete for a Cure, is proud to represent Rancho Bernardo High School and to raise as much money as possible for the mission of LLS, which is to find a cure for blood cancer and to improve the lives of patients and their families.
Every year this campaign honors a pediatric patient- or an honored hero. This year’s Honored Hero is 12-year-old, Caden Timmer. Caden was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when he was just 10 years old. He started Maintenance in February 2018 and he will continue his treatment until May 2020. Two of us are on his dance team and we are so inspired by his positivity and resilience. Learning that this young and active boy had to stop playing sports, dancing, and going to school, in order to get treatment is devastating to think about. This motivated us to be more dedicated to this campaign.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
