Welcome to Cancel Cancer's SOY Fundraising Page!

Feb 04, 2020

Hi there!

We're Team Cancel Cancer, competing in the 2020 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative!  In this program, select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Each dollar donated on this page is a vote for our team and a vote in favor of a cure to cancer.

Leading our 16 person team are Westview High School Juniors Melody Chu and Sarina Oshiro! Our Westview team members include sophomore Kody Mongold and Juniors Areli Salgado, Neda Emdad, Alyson Lee, Audrey Tu, Sophia Chiu, Amber Yacoub, Trinity Yacoub, and Divya Jain. Our three international team members are Fernando Castro, Rodrigo Serrano, and Azusa Maeda, and our four adult members are Guy and Sandi Oshiro, Richard Maeda, and Jaime Stibbard. Click on the red highlighted names to read personal stories or to donate for that specific person to see! (Donations made on this team page or individual member pages all go to the same place; however, members only get email notifcations for donations made on their own pages.)

As a team, our mission is to not only raise the most money, but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, the most common form of cancer in children and teens. Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. In the last two years alone, LLS has supported 45 of the 51 treatments for blood cancers approved by the FDA. And, many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are helping to change the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate. You can also find us on Facebook and Instagram @cancelcancer4lls, and we would love if you could share our page and give us a follow. There, you will find updates about our progress and reminders of upcoming events. Our campaign only runs until March 7th, so be sure to make a donation today or ASAP! If you don't want to give online, you can also Venmo your donation @cancelcancer, or send a check by mail to: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 3890 Murphy Canyon Road Suite 150, San Diego, CA 92123 with "Cancel Cancer" written in the memo line (to designate the money to our team).

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support and generosity!
