Students of the Year Austin

Welcome to Morgan Donnelly's SOY Fundraising Page!
Dear Family and Friends,
I am honored to inform you that the South Central Texas Austin Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has nominated me as a candidate in their 3rd annual Students of the Year fundraising challenge. I could not be more excited to make a difference in the lives of patients across the country!
LLS is an amazing non-profit organization whose fundraisers help provide research for blood cancers (Hodgkin’s disease, myeloma, leukemia, and lymphoma). LLS offers support for patients, survivors, their families, and even helps to advance the science behind other cancers through its research. Unfortunately there is no early detection for blood cancers, only the search for a cure. Leukemia is the leading cause of cancer death in children and young adults under the age of 20, which is why LLS has funded over $1 Billion in research towards a cure. Fighting cancer is an enormous task which is why I have assembled a team of friends and family to join me in supporting this important cause. Every three minutes, one person in the US is diagnosed with a blood cancer.
My own personal connections to cancer and seeing the true effects of this disease, has motivated me to participate in this opportunity. After living with my family in our home for several months, my grandfather, Danny Watts, passed away from lymphoma this past September. I have witnessed first-hand the hardship, pain, and humility that cancer can impose on those who have been diagnosed with the disease and those that love and care for them.
Last year, a sixth-grade student at our school, Regents School of Austin, was diagnosed with leukemia. Cody Robert was eleven-years-old when he began his series of treatments, and thankfully, by God’s grace and advances in medicine, he is currently in remission. LLS and other organizations conduct groundbreaking research in an effort to find more effective and lasting treatments, ultimately working to find a cure. Without this research, many individuals, especially young children like Cody Robert, would not be here with us today. This same research is also being extended into treatments for other cancers such as breast and prostate.
Our team has set a goal of $30,000 to reach by the end of this 7-week campaign, with a stretch goal of $50,000! This $50,000 goal is an incredible accomplishment, which allows us to direct the funds towards a specific research project with the opportunity to name that research portfolio in honor of a loved one. The 7-week campaign will commence on January 10th, 2019 and end with a Grand Finale Celebration on March 1st where Austin’s Student of the Year will be announced.
The real winners are all those sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters that now have the chance to fight and beat this heartbreaking disease.
All donations are tax deductible, and you can give by mailing a check to:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Please make your check payable to: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and print "Morgan Donnelly" in the memo section or make your donation via this website before the March 1st deadline.
Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or would like more information.
Thank you so much for your support, your gift will make a difference. The only way we are going to find a cure is through research and every dollar you contribute will be a step toward this goal.
All my best,
Morgan Donnelly
2019 Students of the Year Candidate
Welcome to Morgan Donnelly's SOY Fundraising Page!
I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student(s) of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
