I’ve recently started a team with my friends for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) third annual Students of the Year Campaign. We’re participating in a 7-week campaign that begins January 10^th and runs through March 1^st to help LLS advance its goal of ultimately curing blood cancers. I’m writing to you to ask if you would be willing to donate money to help us reach our team goal of $10,000!

Cancer changes lives. Whether directly or through family and friends, it can turn your life upside down. LLS believes that no one should ever have to go through this, which is why LLS was founded. Since 1960, the survival rates for many types of blood cancers have doubled, tripled, and even quadrupled. That’s because of people like you who can make a difference.

A donation would really help further the goal of curing blood cancers. In addition, lots of the research LLS does is not only applicable to leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma — it can be applied to the treatment of other types of cancer too. This means that by tackling blood cancer, we’ll be able to assist the curing of other cancers as well.

Another thing that LLS does is help families manage the stress that comes with cancer. LLS does whatever it can to help families through the hard times. It’s important that patients and their families are still enjoying their lives while in treatment, and LLS tries to ensure that.

2019 Students of the Year Candidate

I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student(s) of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
