Welcome to Ginger Baldwin's SOY Fundraising Page!
Dear Friends and Family,
I am honored to inform you that the South Central Texas Austin Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has nominated me as a candidate in their 3rd annual Students of the Year (SOY) fundraising challenge. I could not be more excited to make a difference in the lives of patients across the country.
Honestly, I am extremely lucky because my life has not been personally touched by cancer. I have never had to experience the heartache of having a loved one diagnosed with such a terrible disease. I have never had to rely on organizations like LLS for the survival of someone I care for. But, I have witnessed a friend of mine lose her grandparent who gave the best advice. I watched my parent’s best friend lose her spouse and the loving father of her two boys. I recently learned of the 2019 SOY campaign’s Honored Hero, Archer, who at only 10-months-old was diagnosed with leukemia. So, when given this opportunity, I jumped at the chance to create a team of amazing people dedicated to making a difference.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a non-profit organization whose fundraisers help provide research for blood cancers (Hodgkin’s disease, myeloma, leukemia, and lymphoma). LLS also offers support for patients, survivors, their families, and even helps to advance the science behind other cancers through its research. Unfortunately, there is no early detection for blood cancers, only the search for a cure.
The thing is, cancer does not discriminate. Leukemia is the leading cause of cancer death in children and young adults under the age of 20, which is why LLS has funded over $1 billion in research towards a cure. People of all ages and all backgrounds are at risk, making this everyone’s issue and everyone’s fight. Through LLS and their campaigns like Students of the Year, we can work together to raise as much money as possible for blood cancer research and spread awareness while we’re at it!
I have set a goal of $30,000 to reach by the end of this campaign! The 7 week campaign begins on January 10th, 2019 and ends with a Grand Finale Celebration on March 1st where Austin’s Student of the Year will be announced. Every dollar counts as a “vote” towards my campaign, and the Student with the most “votes” will be named the winner. Our Lake Travis team is phenomenal, and we are determined to make an impact. I, along with my team, hope that you will help us.
My competitors have written similar letters to their family and friends seeking donations, so I ask that you give in whatever capacity you feel comfortable with before the March 1st deadline! All donations are tax deductible, and you can give by donating on this website or by mailing in your donation to:

Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you would like to attend our campaign-ending Grand Finale Celebration or receive sponsorship information/ discuss in-kind donations.
Thank you so much for your help! Everyone wins when cancer loses, and it is your thoughtfulness that makes a difference!
Sincerely,
Ginger Baldwin
2019 Students of the Year Candidate
Welcome to Ginger Baldwin's SOY Fundraising Page!
I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student(s) of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!

Ginger, this is a very good thing you are participating in! Our friends' daughter, Alden, died of leukemia in 2009 just 3 months after her 13th birthday. If she were still here, she would have graduated from college and be out in the working world now spreading her infectious joy to everyone she met. But God decided her time here on earth was done. In her short life she made a significant imprint on people - one of grace, hope and love. Her parents and friends are thankful for this legacy but would love to have her back here for a little while longer. I am praying that God multiplies these gifts and helps the gifted researchers and doctors find a cure quickly so no one else has to endure this kind of pain and suffering. Much love to you!
