WHY GIVE TO LLS DURING UNCERTAIN TIMES

In these times of uncertainty, blood cancer patients and their families need our help. We’re committed to working tirelessly toward our mission each and every day. To address their unique concerns, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will amplify our efforts to share information and provide support to blood cancer patients during this pandemic.

In fact, blood cancer patients are at higher risk of getting very sick from the coronavirus COVID-19. Patients, caregivers, and families might be facing added uncertainty, fear, and stress while navigating their or their loved one’s diagnosis and treatment. LLS is here to help. As the leading source of free blood cancer information, education, and support, we are committed to blood cancer patients and their families throughout their entire cancer experience. When you give to LLS, you make an impact on the lives of cancer patients and their families when it’s needed most.

LLS is a global leader in the fight to end cancer. With more than $283.9 million invested in our mission in FY19, we are relentless about bolstering research, education and support, and policy and advocacy efforts that put blood cancer patients and their families first. Since the 1960s, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled. That’s the power of the LLS mission. With your support, we press on with unwavering dedication.

Join me in supporting this great cause!

Feb 27, 2020

Dear Friend,

I have been given the opportunity of a lifetime to help others.

Beginning last year, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its Students of the Year fundraising campaign, and I was honored to join this year’s efforts as the 2020 student of the year candidate for Team Walker Warriors. I am writing today to ask for your support of LLS’s mission in its efforts to find cures for blood cancers and to assist patients and families as they battle this disease.

From February 6th - March 27th 2020, our team goal is to raise $25,000 which will go directly to LLS. I would greatly appreciate it if you joined me in supporting this honorable cause. Almost everyone can say that they know someone who has been affected by cancer. Personally, my family has dealt with various levels of skin cancer. I have joined the fight against blood cancers because I know just how frightening and uncertain the experiences with it can be. In my own community, I have seen children stopped in their growth by the debilitating presence of cancer in their lives. I’ve seen parents, sisters, brothers struggle through treatment and the financial scares that come with it. I’ve seen the effects that blood cancers can have on my community, and on the friends and family who care for and nurture their loved ones. Leukemia still causes more deaths than any other cancer among children under the age of 20. The effects of this disease are universal and seemingly unstoppable.

But there is something we can do; we can support LLS in their research of blood cancers. There are many reasons to be proud of supporting this organization. LLS helped advance 46 of the 53 blood cancer treatment options approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since 2017. The long-term research investment is paying off. Since started in 1949, LLS has invested nearly $1.3 billion in cutting edge cancer research, leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are saving and improving the lives of patients. This is an organization that is doing the right things with the dollars it raises, and I’m proud to be associated with LLS.

This is where you come in. Please use the link in this letter, or the enclosed response form, to make a tax-deductible contribution to LLS. Should you donate online to: https://events.lls.org/sc/greenville20/mwalker , you will receive a confirmation of your donation by email and I will be notified as soon as you make your donation. Then I’d ask you to reach out to others you know and ask them to do the same. I have found that so many of the people I talk to about our team’s efforts have a connection to cancer and want to get involved.

I thank you in advance for supporting this incredible need. I’ll keep you posted on how the campaign goes. For now, I am grateful for your friendship and support.

In Sanskrit, what you are doing is called seva, which means “selfless service,” work performed without any thought of reward or repayment. In India, seva is one of the ways to propel your spiritual growth while simultaneously contributing to the community. Thank you.
