Who am I? My name is Janelle Calma and I the candidate leader for my team, Project: Hope. I am honored to be a part of the Student of the Year campaing with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). I am a senior in high school and I'm so happy to be supporting an amazing organization, just like LLS... for two years in a row!

What is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Student of the Year? The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is an organization who's mission is the help find the cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. The Student of the Year campaign is a 7-week challenge to raise funds for LLS in honor of young local blood cancer survivors, Honored Heroes. Currently, LLS is focused on research towards children's initiative. Being a part of this organization and campaign, I have learned that fighting cancer is in our blood.

Why am I taking participating? As a young woman, I am blessed to be where I am today and for the childhood I was able to have. Personally, cancer has effected my family and friends. When discovering what LLS stands for and their mission, I knew this was the the organization to help and that this is what I am meant to do. Leukemia is the number one most diagnosed form of childhood cancer. Knowing this and applying it to all my daily life, I know I am here to spread awareness and fight along side those who are currently, but also those who no longer can.
