Miranda's Students of the Year Fundraiser
Hello friends and family! Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising website!
About Me
My name is Miranda Truong. I am currently a sophmore at Sheldon High School and participate in mutliple extracurricular activies such as the Biotechnology Academy. This year I have the honor of being nominated as a candidate by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in their inaugural "Students of the Year" campaign. I am driven to increase awareness about blood cancers while helping better the community!
I joined this fundraising campaign in dedication to my two aunts. One of my aunts had colon cancer, and my other aunt had breast cancer. During this time, it was truly difficult time for everyone in my family. Thankfully, both of my aunts were able to seeks medical help and overcome their illness. Even though everything seemed normal after they were treated, it was a struggle to recover from the situation. Thus, I joined Students of the Year to support LLS in endeavor to end cancer! I am motivated to help other cancer patients, so no individual has to go through what my aunts went through. I could not be more excited and thrilled to help raise funds to support LLS's cancer research!
Our Campaign Team
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Students of the Year program is a leadership development program led by a multigenerational team. Our team, Team Fund the Fight, will be able to experience and establish professional skills such as entrepreneurship and social networking. It is our mindset that fundraising money for a cause we support is helping a community of strong and resilent people who are battling cancer. Our team strives to raise our goal of $15,000 over the next seven weeks from Feburary 4th to March 26th. With this, we hope to succeed in helping the world become a better place with every dollar we raise!
The Inspiration that Started It All
About every 3 minutes someone in the U.S. is diagnoised with a blood cancer. It is truly heartbreaking and devestating to hear the news of a loved one being diagnoised with cancer. LLS has set their mission to improve the quality and lives of patients while developing a cure to end cancer. Recently, LLS is focusing on their Children's Initiative, a $100 million multi-year endeavor, to increase the survival rates of young patients with leukemia and improve their pediatric care. Since 1949, LLS has invested about $1.3 billion into cancer research and has taken multiple steps to help cancer patients and their families, such as our Honored Hero Emma.
Each year, LLS recognizes someone in the local community who has survived a blood cancer, which is also known as the Honored Hero. Our 2021 Honored Hero of this year's campaign was Emma Geiselman, and she was an absolute strong fighter of cancer! In 2009, Emma was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma (ALL) at the age of three years old. Thankfully, she was able to receive chemotherapy and complete her treatment in January 2012. For the past nine years, Emma has been in remission!
Cancer survivors like Emma are what motivate me to help other patients. My heart goes out to those who are victims of cancer or have lost someone through cancer. I would like to use this opportunity, as a candidate, to contribute to LLS's mission while leaving a positive impact on the community.
