Why I support The Leukemia Lymphoma Society
Greetings family and friends!
For the third year, I have the honor of joining the Students of the Year program through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). I am now a campaign candidate, this position gives me an amazing opportunity to really make a difference and provide lifesaving support to patients who are fighting for their lives. This year, I will be leading the team Give for Good with my co-leader Katie Boren. Last year, with the love and support of my amazing friends and family, I raised just about $3,000. This year my goal is to raise $3,000.
Leukemia has affected my world since before I was born. My middle name is special, I am named after my mom's cousin, Ann, who passed away from leukemia in 1999. Growing up, I continue to hear so many stories about the amazing woman she was, her love for her family and how she dedicated her life to helping others through her work as a nurse. My family continues to grieve her loss. I am thankful to join this organization to help other families not go through the pain my family has been through. By raising money in support of LLS, we help support the discovery of new ways to cure cancer.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to curing blood cancers. My team chose LLS because they have funded 56 out of the 66 FDA approved cures for blood cancers and has brought the survival rate for Leukemia to more than quadruple the success rate in 1960. As you can see, LLS truly makes a difference with their enormous impact and continues to make revolutionary advances. Another reason we chose LLS is because their breakthroughs with blood cancers also help those with other cancers and conditions, such as: breast cancer, lung cancer, liver cancer, ovarian cancer, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, and even diabetes. In memory of Ann, I am deeply compelled to help find cures and better treatments for those who are still fighting all diseases!
The Students of the year program is a nationwide, 7-week competition from February 4th to March 26th, in which organized high school teams compete to raise the most funds for LLS and be titled “Students of the Year.” My team, Give for Good, consists of 10 members dedicated to making a difference in our society and saving millions of lives. Funding is a crucial part of how LLS is able to create and support the latest cancer research projects. This money will go towards blood cancer cure research, patient’s copay, and medical bills. As well as ensuring access to the best available treatments! Every dollar counts. $0.78 of every dollar donated to LLS is put towards blood cancer research. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible!
Thank you for all your support and taking the time to read this!
Wishing you health and happiness,
Katie Tannous

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page, welcome!
I encourage you to join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. By donating to LLS, you support the many facets of LLS’s mission work from investing in groundbreaking research, providing education and support to patients, and advocating at the state and federal level for legislation to help those living with cancer. My appreciation for your support cannot be overstated — each and every dollar donated to LLS brings us closer to our goal to end blood cancer and makes an impact for cancer patients and their families.
As a global leader in the fight to end cancer, LLS is committed to doing more for blood cancer patients and families than any organization in the world. LLS’s signature fundraising campaigns drive critical support for its mission, including a nearly $1.3 billion investment in cutting edge cancer research worldwide since it was founded in 1949. Since the 1960s, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled.
Every facet of LLS’s mission – research, education and support, and policy and advocacy – work in harmony to put blood cancer patients and their families first. LLS has helped millions impacted by cancer throughout its more than 70-year history, even funding breakthrough blood cancer research to advance lifesaving treatments and cures that is now helping patients with other cancers and diseases. That is why at LLS we say that beating cancer is in our blood.
Please visit my website as often as you can and share it with everyone you know who would also like to join us in the fight against cancer. Together, we have the power, the passion and the resolve to achieve a world without blood cancer. All donations are tax-deductible.
On behalf of cancer patients and their families everywhere, I sincerely thank you for your support!
